This in-person conference is the region's only family medicine/primary care-focused event, covering emerging clinical topics for general practitioners in Northwestern Ontario. The full-day agenda includes a keynote on incorporating joy into practice and updates on dermatology, cancer screening, adolescent eating disorders, back pain, vaccine hesitancy, opioids, EMR optimization, anemia, and driving & dementia, relevant to family physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, learners, and healthcare team members.

Principles of Plastic Surgery Workshop

· In-Person: Thunder Bay

· October 23 and November 21, 2026

· Can be scheduled in any Northern Ontario Community when requested

· Option to offer the course virtually

Enhance your suturing skills and knowledge in plastic surgery for emergency scenarios. Participants receive a digital booklet on protocols for various conditions, including frostbite, hand injuries, NSTI, and skin cancers.

Workshops are scheduled for October 23rd before the SRPC Mini-rural Conference and November 21st after the Northern Ontario Women’s Health Conference in Thunder Bay.

This in-person event, is scheduled the days before the SRPC’s mini-rural conference in Thunder Bay and aims to foster community connections in a relaxed environment. Participants can mingle, engage in conversations, and share a meal. Northern Ontario Women's Health Conference 2026

November 19-20, 2026

In-person: Thunder Bay

This in-person conference features clinical skills workshops on Pessaries and Positions of Labour, along with obstetrics sessions covering delivery care levels, induction, strep and sepsis in labour, and ultrasound findings management. Gynecology topics include pelvic organ prolapse, stress urinary incontinence, pelvic inflammatory disease, abnormal uterine bleeding, and robotic hysterectomy.

Thunder Bay's premier Women’s health conference invites rural, remote, and urban primary care providers to learn, network, and foster best practices in women's health across northern Ontario.

AFMC Response to Opioid Crisis:

The surge of overdoses and opioid-related deaths in Canada are a national public health crisis. The Government of Canada funded the AFMC, in partnership with Canada’s 17 medical schools, to create a national, bilingual, comprehensive, and competency-based curriculum for medical students, residents and practicing physicians interested in pain management and substance use. The evidence-based training aims to fill gaps in educational programs across Canada, including the diagnosis, treatment, and management of pain. In January 2021, the AFMC successfully developed and launched an Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME) curriculum and building on this work, we have developed a Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) curriculum.
